PROJECTS
Auckland Airport Transport Links and Roading Infrastructure
Project Planning

Auckland Airport Ltd has invested around $190 million to improve the 24 kilometres of road across the core airport precinct. These upgrades are helping to move people and freight into, out of, and around the airport more efficiently and reliably.
The airport has utilised Inovo planners’ construction infrastructure experience to develop programmes early, defining reasonable timeframes for construction and to support prioritisation of design and procurement strategies.
The Northern Network project transformed the main entranceway into the airport, increasing roading capacity and efficiencies and provide critical support for new public transport connections. The main road into the airport from the north will be widened to create high occupancy vehicle lanes, with shared pedestrian and cyclepaths alongside. A new one-way loop road allows traffic to flow efficiently through a pick-up/drop-off zone at the international terminal.
The Laurence Stevens Drive upgrade created a high-occupancy vehicle lane for shuttles and buses and additional bus stops, improving journey-time reliability to the airport precinct and terminals.
The Park & Ride South project has included construction of 3000 parking spaces, which was completed in May 2024.
Inovo’s project planning and assurance services have enabled these packages of work. Planning and design of future stages are underway with forecast completion in 2038.

Other projects that Inovo has been involved with at Auckland Airport include:
- Capital Works Programme
- Domestic Jet Terminal
- Regional Airfield Expansion (Hardstands) - A $500 million hardstand project currently under construction, with Inovo providing programme assurance services to support airport and Engineer-to-Contract assessments.
- Checkpoint & Cargo Access (AVSEC / Airport Security) - Providing project planning and assurance services for the development of a new airport security checkpoint.
- Baggage Handling System Upgrade & Eastern Baggage Hall
- Duty Free Retail Redevelopment - Inovo has been appointed as Project Managers for the redevelopment of Auckland Airport’s dutyfree retail spaces following Lagardère Travel Retail’s partnership with Auckland Airport as the sole dutyfree operator. The programme includes the staged rebuild and refit of four retail areas between 2025 and 2027, comprising approximately 5,300sqm of retail, back-of-house, and office space.
- Flood Remediation - Inovo was also engaged to manage the urgent remediation of extensive damage caused to the International Terminal by the 2023 Auckland floods, which temporarily closed the terminal to all flights. This entailed the testing and replacement of large areas of floor and wall finishes, doors, fixed furniture, bathroom amenities, lifts and escalators, and specialised check-in and baggage-handling equipment.
