Inovo successfully delivered project management and Engineer to Contract services for the enabling works and new build at James Cook High School (JCHS) in Manurewa, Auckland. This work was to allow for Learning Support role growth at the school.
The enabling works included upgrading the Music Suite facilities block, reinstating and decanting caretaker facilities, decommissioning the boiler block and hazardous goods storage facility, reinstating the electrical distribution switchboard, relocating two existing blocks, and demolishing structures to prepare for the construction of seven new Learning Support classrooms and teaching spaces. This project presented scheduling challenges, as it spanned the Christmas holiday period, as well as the removal of asbestos material in the old classrooms..
With the enabling works complete, the main construction stage commenced, including seven new Learning Support classrooms and teaching spaces in a building designed with specialist and accessibility features. Inovo worked with the team and client to successfully manage challenges through construction, notably unforeseen inground services, inclement weather and the need to ensure the building was ready for occupation, within committed timeframes.
The new building and courtyard is nestled safely at the heart of the JCHS campus providing a connection through to the wider school environment. The project was delivered to project objectives, with very positive feedback from the Ministry and School Principals.
