The nearly $4 billion development includes a significantly expanded international arrivals experience, enhanced border and biosecurity processing, and upgraded passenger facilities designed to improve operational efficiency and traveller experience. Improvements include a new express “Nothing to Declare” processing lane, which has already significantly reduced median passenger processing times.

The project will add approximately 30,000sqm of new floor area to the existing international terminal, creating substantial additional capacity for border processing, retail, public dwell spaces, and back-of-house operations. The development extends from the western end of the terminal and integrates directly with the existing facility, alongside a new forecourt providing improved access to taxis, shuttles, and other transport services.

Working closely with Auckland Airport, Inovo has helped define andimplement project controls processes that strengthen programme performancemonitoring, reporting, and decision-making across this highly complexlive-operational environment.

Inovo’s controls systems and forecasting methodologies enable theproject team to move beyond traditional reporting by modelling deliveryscenarios, assessing mitigation strategies, and identifying recoveryopportunities where required. This provides stakeholders with greatervisibility of programme impacts and supports proactive decision-making acrossthe wider airport development programme.

A key solution developed collaboratively between Inovo and AucklandAirport has been the implementation of cost-loaded planning metrics andbaseline performance reporting across critical projects. This frameworkprovides an integrated view of programme performance, enabling earlyidentification of schedule pressure and supporting targeted interventionstrategies to maintain delivery objectives.

Through clear communication, integrated planning, and collaborativeprogramme controls, Inovo supports Auckland Airport in balancing operationalrequirements, cost, buildability, and future passenger demand across one of NewZealand’s most significant infrastructure programmes.

Other projects that Inovo has been involved with at Auckland Airport include:

  • Capital Works Programme
  • Regional Airfield Expansion (Hardstands) - A $500 million hardstand project currently under construction, with Inovo providing programme assurance services to support airport and Engineer-to-Contract assessments.
  • Checkpoint & Cargo Access (AVSEC / Airport Security) - Providing project planning and assurance services for the development of a new airport security checkpoint.
  • Baggage Handling System Upgrade & Eastern Baggage Hall
  • Transport Links & Roading Infrastructure
  • Duty Free Retail Redevelopment - Inovo is Project Manager for the redevelopment of Auckland Airport’s dutyfree retail spaces following Lagardère Travel Retail’s partnership with Auckland Airport as the sole dutyfree operator. The programme includes the staged rebuild and refit of four retail areas between 2025 and 2027, comprising approximately 5,300sqm of retail, back-of-house, and office space.
  • Flood Remediation - Inovo was also engaged to manage the urgent remediation of extensive damage caused to the International Terminal by the 2023 Auckland floods, which temporarily closed the terminal to all flights. This entailed the testing and replacement of large areas of floor and wall finishes, doors, fixed furniture, bathroom amenities, lifts and escalators, and specialised check-in and baggage-handling equipment.
