Auckland Airport Regional Airfield Expansion (Hardstands)
Project Planning

Inovo is providing project planning services for Auckland Airport’s Regional Airfield Expansion programme.
The $147 million investment will deliver four new aircraft stands and approximately 8,500m² of additional airfield space designed to accommodate both turboprop and jet aircraft. With around 140 regional flights operating daily —and 40% of all regional journeys beginning or ending in Auckland - the development is a significant step in strengthening New Zealand’s regional air network and supporting the wider economic role of aviation. Once complete in 2028, the project is expected to enable nearly 100,000 additional seats annually on regional routes.
Inovo planners have been involved since project inception, working closely with Auckland Airport to test and validate the preferred delivery solution. A key project consideration has been ensuring construction can be successfully delivered within a live operating airport environment while minimising disruption to ongoing operations.
To support this, Inovo undertook detailed 4D planning analysis prior to contractor engagement, helping inform staging, sequencing, and delivery planning. Now in the delivery phase, Inovo continues to provide expert client-side technical advice, supporting programme interface management and delivery assurance to help maintain critical project timeframes.
The upgrade also includes stormwater infrastructure improvements, laying the foundation for future airfield and terminal developments while improving long-term resilience and operational flexibility.

Other projects that Inovo has been involved with at Auckland Airport include:
- Capital Works Programme
- Domestic Jet Terminal
- Checkpoint & Cargo Access (AVSEC / Airport Security) - Providing project planning and assurance services for the development of a new airport security checkpoint.
- Baggage Handling System Upgrade & Eastern Baggage Hall
- Duty Free Retail Redevelopment - Inovo has been appointed as Project Managers for the redevelopment of Auckland Airport’s dutyfree retail spaces following Lagardère Travel Retail’s partnership with Auckland Airport as the sole dutyfree operator. The programme includes the staged rebuild and refit of four retail areas between 2025 and 2027, comprising approximately 5,300sqm of retail, back-of-house, and office space.
- Flood Remediation - Inovo was also engaged to manage the urgent remediation of extensive damage caused to the International Terminal by the 2023 Auckland floods, which temporarily closed the terminal to all flights. This entailed the testing and replacement of large areas of floor and wall finishes, doors, fixed furniture, bathroom amenities, lifts and escalators, and specialised check-in and baggage-handling equipment.
