Auckland Airport Domestic Jet Terminal

Project Planning

As part of Auckland Airport’s multi-billion-dollar 25-year Redevelopment Master Plan, the new Domestic Jet Terminal is one of the airport’s most significant infrastructure investments. The development will replace the existing 53-year-old domestic terminal and integrate domestic jet operations with the international terminal precinct, eliminating the current 'walk and shuttle' connection between terminals.
Valued at more than $2.2 billion and scheduled for completion in 2030, the project represents a major transformation of Auckland Airport’s passenger experience and operational capability.
Inovo provides programme management and project planning services for the development, reporting directly to the Project Director. In this role, Inovo supports the integration, monitoring, analysis, and coordination of programme delivery across the wider terminal redevelopment.
The project incorporates three major physical and contractual workstreams:
- Construction of the new terminal building
- Design and delivery of an integrated baggage handling system
- Construction of associated airfield hardstand infrastructure
The project is currently progressing through staged delivery, with each workstream delivered by separate contractors and managed by independent project teams, creating a highly complex interface and coordination environment within a live operational airport setting.
To support integration across these interfaces, Inovo has developed detailed 4D programme analysis and sequencing tools that help visualise constraints, coordinate staging, and improve delivery planning between contractors and project teams. This has been particularly valuable in managing handovers and access coordination between the airfield and vertical construction teams during the delivery of hardstand and pier infrastructure.
Through integrated programme controls and planning assurance, Inovo helps Auckland Airport maintain visibility across programme performance, interface risk, and delivery confidence throughout this complex redevelopment programme.
Beyond technical capability, Inovo’s planners bring a collaborative and personable approach that helps simplify complex challenges, build alignment across teams, and support informed decision-making for both project delivery teams and airport governance stakeholders.

Other projects that Inovo has been involved with at Auckland Airport include:
- Capital Works Programme
- Regional Airfield Expansion (Hardstands) - A $500 million hardstand project currently under construction, with Inovo providing programme assurance services to support airport and Engineer-to-Contract assessments.
- Checkpoint & Cargo Access (AVSEC / Airport Security) - Providing project planning and assurance services for the development of a new airport security checkpoint.
- Baggage Handling System Upgrade & Eastern Baggage Hall
- Transport Links & Roading Infrastructure
- Duty Free Retail Redevelopment - Inovo has been appointed as Project Managers for the redevelopment of Auckland Airport’s dutyfree retail spaces following Lagardère Travel Retail’s partnership with Auckland Airport as the sole dutyfree operator. The programme includes the staged rebuild and refit of four retail areas between 2025 and 2027, comprising approximately 5,300sqm of retail, back-of-house, and office space.
- Flood Remediation - Inovo was also engaged to manage the urgent remediation of extensive damage caused to the International Terminal by the 2023 Auckland floods, which temporarily closed the terminal to all flights. This entailed the testing and replacement of large areas of floor and wall finishes, doors, fixed furniture, bathroom amenities, lifts and escalators, and specialised check-in and baggage-handling equipment.
