Inovo managed the assessment and upgrade of these industrial buildings.
Inovo was engaged to manage the assessment of damage caused by the Canterbury earthquake sequence and subsequent repairs. The damage identified by Inovo’s team was extensive and the repair methodology involved the installation of a considerable volume of structural steel in the walls and roof, along with concrete panel replacement and crack injection. Ground beams were also installed to support new external steel bracing elements.
The buildings were no longer compliant in regard to passive and active fire systems, resulting in an extensive upgrade. This involved converting a large mezzanine floor into a contained fire cell through the use of fire protective linings, fire windows and an automatic fire curtain. The active fire detection and alarm systems were also upgraded in both buildings.
The particular challenge of this project was carrying out the physical works while keeping the plastics manufacturing tenant fully operational. This was achieved by developing a realistic programme with the tenant and Main Contractor and then delivering that programme through regular planning meetings involving all parties along with constant communication and monitoring.
The project was delivered successfully and came in under budget.
