Scott Base is New Zealand’s home on the ice and a strategic hub for scientists across the globe to carry out research.

Inovo was initially engaged to undertake project master planning for a new phase of redevelopment, which intends to completely replace the current facilities with three large interconnected buildings, a separate helicopter hangar, additional beds and social spaces. The base currently comprises 12 separate buildings built at various times over the last 30 years, “questionable” fire safety, ageing infrastructure and expensive maintenance.

Inovo is now providing project management support services to Antarctica New Zealand’s internal project team. This has included managing the initiation phase of a new Wind Farm project, defining the strategic objectives, scope and purpose, identifying risk and setting the overall budget; as well as the creation, review and approval of an overarching Project Management Plan, Communications Plan, Stakeholder Engagement Plan and Design Management Plan for the main redevelopment.

The new base could accommodate up to 100 people at a time. Of the three buildings, one is designed for accommodation, dining and welfare, the second for science and management and the third for engineering and storage. The new base will be fit for scientific purpose, extremely energy efficient, safe, and flexible. The proposed rebuild is estimated to take eight years to complete.
