At the request of the Ministry of Health, Inovo assisted the Main Contractor with the planning and delivery of the 10,500m², six-storey, 620-room new Outpatients Facility.
The project was lagging significantly behind programme. On joining the team, Inovo worked closely with Canterbury District Health Board and the Main Contractor to redefine the project risks, specifically around the delivery phase, and establish a new strategic plan that realigned the entire project sequence, before developing a fast-track construction programme.
The facility was a very technical build, with 100 different room configurations and/or functions, highly-controlled environments for the provision of blood and other sterile services, three plant rooms, and a services trench linking pneumatic tube, medical gases, steam and communication services to the main hospital and laboratory. The building has an importance level of 3 and was designed to accommodate a high degree of seismic movement for structure, partition walls and services.
The Outpatients Facility was delivered by the original completion date, on budget and to an excellent standard of quality – the zero defect target at handover was successfully achieved.
