This Historic Place Category 2 property in the Amuri Basin has been a part of the local landscape since the mid 1800s.

The 850m² single storey homestead is one of the largest timber residential structures in New Zealand. Inovo commenced a comprehensive assessment and remediation process in January 2017 in response to the extensive damage sustained by the property in the 2016 Kaikoura earthquake sequence.

Inside and out, nearly all of the homestead’s various structural and cosmetic elements required some form of repair or replacement. Major works were required to the front upper level turret of the homestead. This involved realigning the main structure and reconnecting it to the existing roof framing. A complete re-roof was also undertaken; a significant task given the scale of the homestead. Reinstatement of the ten fireplaces and associated lightweight chimneys presented major challenges, incorporating operational fire units in keeping with the historic features of the homestead, and ensuring the works remained within the tolerances of the latest Building Code.

The remedial works were completed over an 18 month period, an outstanding effort by the main contractor, AJ Scott, given the sheer scale of the project. The quality of the workmanship and the pride in the attention to detail taken throughout will see this grand homestead through another 200 years.
