A fault line directly underneath this unassuming staff quarters proved disastrous when the 2016 Kaikoura earthquake struck.
The activation of the fault line caused extreme ground movement, displacing the modest 77m² dwelling not only from its foundations, but relocating it completely over five metres away from its original position.
While the structure remained mostly intact, it was deemed too dangerous for entry to complete a damage assessment. Given Inovo’s thorough understanding of FMG’s policy response, our process could be adjusted to provide a recommendation and budget advice based on external observations and measurements.
Due to the extreme nature of the damage to the dwelling and the severe land displacement, this claim could only ever result in a decision to demolish what remained and replace the dwelling in a new location. Inovo completed comprehensive reporting and cost estimation to allow FMG to approach the Insured with a settlement offer.
Inovo’s first visit to the property occurred in November 2016 within days of the quake, and final reporting was provided to FMG prior to the Christmas break, allowing the settlement discussions to commence with minimal delay.
