The Downtown Infrastructure Development Programme is a 10-year programme designed to enhance the downtown Auckland waterfront precinct.
Inovo was engaged by Auckland Transport to coordinate and oversee the Streetscapes elements of the Downtown Infrastructure Development Programme as Workstream Lead, ensuring the projects were designed and delivered by the various project managers in line with the overall objectives and constraints of the wider programme.
The Downtown Public Spaces project focused on the waterfront public space in the ferry basin between Princes Wharf and Queens Wharf. This area provides a focus and connection for downtown businesses, residents, visitors and locals, and aims to connect the city to the harbour.
The Quay Street Enhancement project revitalises Quay Street, with wider footpaths, easier navigation and an enhanced natural environment. Traffic lanes reduced from four to two, dedicated bus lanes and cycleways were constructed and a 30km speed limit is imposed.
The Downtown Bus Interchange project works with the quieter Quay Street, which will still retain its function as a downtown transport hub integrating different modes of transport and improving navigation between trains, buses and ferries. New interchanges will be created, at Britomart East and Lower Albert Street. These two terminals will function as a destination or starting point, or transfer between buses, ferries and trains.
