Inovo completed a damage assessment for this timber cottage following a devastating fire.

Following a review of notifications from the New Zealand Fire Brigade and confirmation from the electrician who had disconnected the services, Inovo visited the site to assess the damage, confirm the dwelling’s dimensions and obtain all of the information needed to produce a comprehensive repair or replacement recommendation and estimate.

It was immediately apparent that the dwelling and sheds were a total loss. The Inovo team was able to quickly develop a rapport with the understandably distressed homeowner, allowing us to record the condition of the dwelling prior to the fire and the internal fixtures and finishes with speed and accuracy, avoiding prolonging the resolution of the claim any longer than absolutely necessary.

Measurements were taken to ensure replacement allowances aligned with the areas of loss. During this process the Inovo team identified potential asbestos and advised the homeowner to cease attempting to clean the site while testing was undertaken. This was quickly organised and Inovo was able to provide the all-clear within a matter of days, allowing the site clearance to resume.

Inovo completed reporting and cost estimation for the replacement structures within seven days of our visit to site and 10 days post-event. This outcome allowed the Insurer to enter cash settlement or reinstatement conversations with the Insured promptly. The homeowner elected to accept a cash settlement and self-managed a rebuild process.
