Canterbury Engineering the Future (CETF) is the redevelopment of the University of Canterbury’s Engineering Precinct.
As part of a joint venture, Inovo provided project management services to the University which included stakeholder engagement, development of the client brief, procurement, design management, early contractor involvement, tendering, construction monitoring, contract administration and commissioning.
The project was programmed into five separate stages incorporating demolition of existing buildings, new build, major refurbishment, earthquake repairs, structural strengthening and the expansion of eight significant teaching and research buildings. Heavy demolition and construction took place in an operational campus, adjacent to active teaching and research facilities, requiring complex site disruption and health and safety plans.
The new space includes significant facilities to support more effective teaching, learning and research collaborations, including workstations for individuals and groups, enhanced Wifi and electrical power points. The Engineering Core especially forms a major student hub offering a more attractive option for potential students, designed to conform to modern university design principles - open plan and multi-use, encouraging mixing and mingling to improve the quality and results of teaching and research.
